A Body of Work. I have enjoyed a twenty-year association with Purdy Hicks Gallery, and a particularly close working relationship with the Irish artist Hughie O'Donoghue who showed with them for many years. His work is characterised by an engagement with the past. He uses figuration and abstraction to explore themes of human identity, memory and experience; and draws on history, mythology and personal records to create works which resonate with emotional intensity. The texts he writes to accompany exhibitions are a key part of his work, and so the catalogues are central to his practice. I have designed more than twenty, including those for exhibitions at the Irish Museum of Modern Art, Dublin; Haus der Kunst, Munich; Gemeentemuseum, The Hague; and most recently, Eton College.
